Turning a Local Charity Event Into a Cinematic Comedy

The Challenge
How Do You Make People Care About Another Event Promo?
Honey & Hops had produced commercials for the Mead Mile in each of the previous two years using another production company.
For year three, they wanted to try something different.
The Mead Mile isn’t just another event on the calendar. It’s a local charity event bringing the community together to support Reaching Out Now, with proceeds helping fund resources for local kids in need.
The challenge was creating a commercial that could communicate the event and its purpose without feeling like another predictable event advertisement.
We wanted people to stop scrolling.
More importantly, we wanted them to keep watching.
Our Solution
Don't Make an Event Promo. Make a Movie Trailer.
Instead of building the concept around the event itself, we built a story around it.
The third annual Mead Mile commercial became a parody of Talladega Nights, following two overly committed competitors preparing for the biggest race of their lives.
The commercial borrowed the recognizable energy and absurdity of the movie while adapting the concept specifically to Honey & Hops, the Mead Mile, downtown Front Royal, and the charity behind the event.
The result was less “Here’s an event you should attend.”
And much more:
“What the hell am I watching… and where do I sign up?”

CONCEPT DEVELOPMENT
FROM CHARITY EVENT TO TALLADEGA NIGHTS
Honey & Hops wanted something different for the third annual Mead Mile. Rather than creating another traditional event commercial, we started with an idea people wouldn’t expect from a local charity race: turn the entire thing into a movie parody.
Drawing inspiration from Talladega Nights, we developed an original storyline around two overly serious Mead Mile competitors training for race day, only to discover a mysterious French rival had entered the competition.
The concept gave us a way to introduce the event, Honey & Hops, and the charitable mission while creating something entertaining enough to stand on its own.
VIDEO PRODUCTION
CREATING A COMMERCIAL PEOPLE ACTUALLY WANTED TO WATCH
Instead of simply filming an event announcement, we treated the commercial like a miniature production.
Filming took place across downtown Front Royal, inside Honey & Hops, at Reaching Out Now, and during our competitors’ increasingly ridiculous “training.”
The finished commercial combined cinematic visuals, character-driven scenes, comedy, product integration, and the recognizable energy of Talladega Nights while still keeping the Mead Mile and its charitable purpose at the center of the story.
This is where I’d put the large embedded commercial, exactly like the LCTV video placement in your screenshot.
CREATIVE DIRECTION
BALANCING COMEDY, BRAND AND PURPOSE
The biggest creative challenge wasn’t making the commercial funny. It was making sure the joke didn’t overshadow why the Mead Mile exists.
The performances, locations, visual references, pacing, and editing were all developed around the personality of Honey & Hops while creating a natural transition into the story of Reaching Out Now and the community the event supports.
The result felt less like a traditional local event advertisement and more like a piece of entertainment made specifically for the Honey & Hops audience.
